Introduction

Hello everyone!

Thanks for checking out my new blog. My name is Christina, and, in short, I'm going to be writing about all of the animals in my life.

Currently, I have two dogs living with me. One is my childhood yellow Labrador, Nacho. He is around nine years old, and for the last few years he has been experiencing seizures that come every six months. He is in pretty good health otherwise, with lots of energy and a passion for stealing socks.

The other dog is a senior husky that I adopted from a shelter a couple months ago. His name is Blue. He's the first dog I've adopted and I am so lucky to have found him. He's a great first adoption - he's mellow, a sweetheart to everybody, and he leaves other animals alone. He's quiet (which is really weird for a husky) and will only occasionally howl when we're preparing his food too slow or when I close his window in the car. He's really old, and the only way to stop being sad about his diminished senses is to laugh with him when he accidentally walks into the screen door.

Unfortunately, he has some medical problems that we aren't able to laugh at. He has intervertebral disc disease, and as a result has difficulty with his back legs. At first, his pain was so bad that he would never sit or lay down except to go to sleep. He would wander endlessly around the house, never sleeping through the night.

Fortunately, I found a vet center for him with a caring and dedicated staff, and they helped me figure out what medications would help and whether any other options were available. As of now, he is on a mix of arthritis, anti-inflammatory, and pain medication. He is much happier now; he takes frequent naps, gets playful, and has even sprinted hard a couple of times! We try to keep his activity level lower so that he doesn't outdo himself, but seeing him keep up with Nacho makes all of us smile.

In addition to my dogs at home, I started a new job today at a veterinary center! It will be an adventure for sure and I'm excited to see what's in store for me. I've never worked with animals in a professional setting, and haven't been exposed to very many aggressive animals before, so there may be some... interesting stories to share in the future.

My life and my heart are full when I'm around animals, and now my life is overflowing with them. The best part is that my role in all this is to help care for these animals; for Blue and his IDD at home, and for the poor sick animals at the hospital. I could not be more grateful for these loving little creatures in my life, and I hope to share my joy with all of you.
